Post-Lively Gathering: Werth and Company, Gold Dressage Competition
The Dressage European Championships in Crozet, France, saw an intense battle for the top spot, with the German team emerging victorious. The gold medal win was led by Isabell Werth and her mare Wendy, who showcased their exceptional skills in the Grand Prix ride, scoring an impressive 79.224%.
The duel for gold was between Werth and Charlotte Fry, with both riders delivering outstanding performances. Fry, representing Great Britain, received 75.869% for her ride, narrowly missing the gold but securing a strong second place for her team.
The battle for first place was thrilling and extremely close, with the final outcome being decided in the last ride. As the last starter for the German team, Isabell Werth demonstrated her class, turning a nail-biting finale into a victory. This win marks Werth's 13th team gold at a European Championship.
Ingrid Klimke, another member of the German team, faced some issues with her horse Vayron in the initial stages, scoring only 69.348% for her Grand Prix ride. Katharina Hemmer, a debutant, also performed well with Denoix, earning 75.699% in the competition.
Unfortunately, Andrew Gould from the British team was disqualified with Indigro as the horse was not fit enough for the competition.
The German team's success did not stop at the Grand Prix. Frederic Wandres also delivered a strong performance, scoring 74.721%, but falling short of his own expectations. This victory marks Germany's 26th gold medal at the Dressage European Championships.
More medals will be awarded in the Grand Prix Special on Friday, followed by the KΓΌr competition on Sunday, where a new gold winner will be determined. Jessica von Bredow-Werndl, the previous gold winner, was unable to defend her titles as she has retired her mare Dalera.
The British team, who won two years ago in Riesenbeck, finished second in this year's championship, demonstrating their continued strength in the sport. The Dressage European Championships in Crozet proved to be an exciting event, showcasing the high level of skill and competition in the equestrian world.
