In an unusual turn of events, Paul Corcoran, a resident of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, has won a combined total of $2 million from the Powerball lottery. The win came on July 9, 2025, as a result of Corcoran purchasing two separate tickets by mistake for the same drawing.

The Powerball lottery, one of the largest in the U.S., is played in 45 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are extremely low, at 1 in 292 million. However, Corcoran's luck seemed to favour him on this particular day.

Corcoran initially bought a "Multi-Draw" ticket for seven drawings. Thinking that the final drawing had already taken place, he bought another multi-draw ticket for the same July 9th drawing. Both tickets shared the same winning numbers: 6, 9, 25, 28, 69. Although both tickets were winners, each missed the $217 million jackpot as the Powerball number, which was 5, did not match.

The specific stores where the winning tickets were bought have not been disclosed. However, it is known that one ticket was purchased at Market Basket in Fitchburg, and the other at Country Farms in Leominster. Each store received a $10,000 bonus for selling a winning ticket.

Corcoran claimed the prizes on July 11, 2025. He has not yet decided on how to spend his winnings, but he has been playing the same numbers for a while. The Massachusetts State Lottery Commission has confirmed this story, making it an accurate and verified account.

This double win in the Powerball lottery marks an unexpected event in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. While Corcoran may have missed the jackpot, his $2 million win is still a significant sum. As with all lottery wins, Corcoran will have to pay taxes on his winnings before deciding on how to spend it.

I'm not sure if Corcoran will focus on casino-and-gambling, but since he has been playing the same numbers for a while and is now a millionaire, he might consider trying his luck in casino-games like Powerball, especially since he has proven his luck in lotteries. Despite missing the Jackpot, his $2 million win from the Powerball lottery makes him question if perhaps he should explore other big-wins opportunities.
